The Azygos Lobe
نویسنده
چکیده
Wrisberg (1778) was the first to give the anatomical description of this lobe. Stibbe (1919) reviewed 23 cases from the literature including one of his own. Since 1923 radiologists have often reported this abnormality. Litten (1929) gives a frequency of 0.07 per cent, while Le Bourdelles and Jalet (1931) give 2.6 per cent for the occurrence of the azygos lobe in chest radiographs. The cases reported so far include two by Cairney (1923), fifty by Bendick and Wessler (1928), three by Emil (1929), twelve by Illig (1929), ten by Vollmar (1930), sixteen by Jalet (1930), seventeen by Zawadowski (1930), seven by Orosz (1932), two by Cockayne (1933), one by Vita (1933), three by Bottaliga (1933) and one by Choussat (1938). Dr. P4 Kesavaswamy, late radiologist, King George Hospital, Vizagapatam, showed the writer in 1939 radiographs of two cases of azygos lobe. The January issue of the Journal of Indian Medical Association contains reports of two more cases from the same hospital. The two cases were discovered in an Indian

The azygos lobe and vein: interesting and typical clinical image.
1 of 2 DESCRIPTION A 38-year-old male admitted to the hospital with chest pain for few days. He does not have any signifi cant medical and surgical problems. Physical examination, lab work, imaging studies and exercise cardiolite stress were normal. Eventually, we concluded that this chest pain was most likely secondary to musculoskeletal origin. We found azygos lob incidentally on chest x-ray ...
متن کاملThe Azygos Lobe: Anesthetic Considerations
The incidence of azygos lobe vary from 0.4% to 1% with no clinical significance (1). Recently, with the progress in minimally invasive thoracoscopic surgery, azygos lobe Identification has become more oftentimes seen during the procedure. In this report we discuss the anesthetic considerations of an azygos lobe in a patient with palmar hyperhidrosis who underwent thoracoscopic sympathectomy.
متن کاملSpontaneous pneumothorax in a patient with an azygos lobe.
The association between a spontaneous pneumothorax and an azygos lobe is surprisingly rare. A case is reported in which surgical management was difficult; it is suggested that thoracotomy is preferable to video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery in this situation. It is possible that the presence of an azygos lobe might protect against the subsequent development of a spontaneous pneumothorax, and t...
متن کاملReentrance of Azygos Vein into Azygos Fissure After Pneumothorax.
Empty azygos fissure implies dislocation of the azygos vein to the mediastinal side of the right upper lobe from azygos fissure, which is usually secondary to pneumothorax, pleural effusion, parenchymal fibrosis, vertebral collapse or persistent vomiting. We are presenting here a case where a separated azygos vein in CT and radiography images was noted. Moreover, in the follow-up images, it app...

متن کاملMigrating azygos vein and vanishing azygos lobe: MDCT findings.
OBJECTIVE The purpose of this study was to describe six cases of migrating azygos vein and to explain the etiologic factors that contribute to the migration. Six patients with migrating azygos vein were studied by MDCT before and after migration. Five patients had right pneumothorax. All patients had repeated episodes of cough, vomiting, and a short mesoazygos. CONCLUSION Pneumothorax, increa...
